At November 2, 2009, workshop Council agreed to allocate an additional $200,000 toward the skate park which brings the total to over $300,000. Keep in mind this isn’t an official vote; it’s a sense of Council’s direction.

The next steps are to get the Consultant to finish the specs, put it out for bid and see what price the bids come in at.

Two items are on the City Council Agenda for August 19, 2009, related to the Skate Park.

1)      ITEM 4.1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IMPERIAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 9.10, RELATING TO SKATEBOARD AND ROLLER SKATE RIDING.

2)      ITEM 6.2 REVIEW OF THE SPORTS PARK SKATE PARK DESIGN CIP P07-101

The guys from grind line came down and showed off the plans for the park.  There are two sets, Phase 1 and Phase 2.

IMPERIAL BEACH – Imperial Beach Councilman Fred McLean, who was recently re-elected to the City Council, died early Sunday. He was 73.

Mr. McLean, who was being treated for a rare type of cancer that had quickly spread to his liver, contracted pneumonia and died at San Diego Hospice, said his wife Dee McLean.

Mr. McLean privately told friends and council colleagues about the cancer but didn’t speak publicly about it. He was diagnosed April 3. His treatment began April 9.

He had missed several council meetings since the diagnosis and while undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

The IB 4 A Skatepark Committee wanted to inform all of you who have supported the skatepark that Imperial Beach has been selected to be a recipient of the Tony Hawk Foundation Grant for 2009!! The Foundation will contribute $10,000 towards the project and provide some guidance and technical assistance-we are so proud that our City is receiving this recognition-thanks again to all of you for your continued support. Watch for more information as we move forward on this project! Please pass this on to others to let them know that this project continues to be very much alive!

Attend the IB City Council Meeting on Wednesday Sept. 17th at 6pm. There will be discussion about requesting additional funding from the County of San Diego towards the park to the tune of $125,000!
